Picture Gallery One Some pictures of the past from the Albion Valley with a brief description under each of them. These pictures were taken from the book "Images of America, Cassia County", by Valerie K. Bowen and the Cassia County Historical Society. Most of the pictures were provided for the book by Verlene Powell.
Miller Hall On the Albion State Normal School Campus. Named after Josiah Miller. It was originally built as a ladies dormitory. In 2008, it was restored and it is now a conference center and bed-and-breakfast. (Courtesy of Verlene Powell)
Swanger Hall Albion Normal School opened it's doors in 1893. This building was named after J. Frank Swanger, the first president of the college. It was the administrative building and was later used for classrooms until it burned down in 1947. (Courtesy of Verlene Powell)
Chemistry Class A chemistry class is pictured at Albion Normal School in 1908. The college specialized in turning out teachers but had many other courses to make a well rounded student. (Courtesy of Verlene Powell)

Snodgrass Store This old general store sold about anything. J. V. Snodgrass is behind the counter. The date on the calendar is Monday, February 18, 1907. (Courtesy of Ann Wight)

Albion Mercantile This department store was built around 1900. The store was advertised as "large and spacious". The upper floor was used as a dance hall. The building burned down in 1926. (Courtesy of Verlene Powell)
Albion Hotel The Albion Hotel was built in the late 1880's. It was always considered a first-class establishment. Many prominent people stayed there. This picture is believed to be a political rally. I burned down in 1914. (Courtesy of Verlene Powell)
D. L. Evans Bank Cassia Counties oldest banking institution. Founded in 1904, this financial instution weathered many economic storms. It was one of two banks in the county that made it through the great depression.
Post Office The Albion Post Office had many locations through the years. The first postmaster appointed for Albion was Charles Cobb. Two mail deliveries came each day and was very large in part because of the college.
Methodist Church Constructed in 1879 as the Albion Methodist Episcopal Church. This building has been the meeting place for several organizations including the Four Leaf Clover Club, the Grange and the American Legion. The bell is still rung on Sunday morning for the current owner, Albion Church of Christ.
Diamondfield Jack Little is known about Diamondfield Jack’s early life. He was born about 1879 somewhere in the East. He worked in the Black Jack mine for a time and left to follow rumors of a diamond strike in the nearby hills. He failed to find any diamonds, but talked so much of the diamond field that he earned the nickname “Diamondfield Jack.”
